Colonel Larry E. Gardner is the Commander of the 141st Air Refueling Wing, Washington Air National Guard located at Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington. The 141st Air Refueling Wing has both a Federal and State mission and is Classically Associated with the 92d Air Refueling Wing sharing 63 KC-135 aircraft valued at $3.5 billion. When gained by Air Mobility Command, the federal mission is to train, equip, and deploy quality mobility forces to forward operating locations in support of specific contingency plans and other short notice taskings. Under order of the Governor of the State of Washington, the wing provides protection of life and property while
preserving peace, order, and public safety. Colonel Gardner began his military career in November 1992 as a Civil Engineering Apprentice with the Montana Air National Guard while attending Carroll College on a football scholarship. He was selected as the Deputy Base Civil Engineer in 1997 and received his federal commissioning on 2 July 1998. In 2000, he was chosen from a competitive field as an F-16 pilot candidate and attended the prestigious Euro-Nato Joint Jet Pilot Training undergraduate program. In 2008, Colonel Gardner entered the Active Guard Reserve program during his conversion to the F-15C and flew the Eagle until the 120th Fighter Wing converted its mission to the C-130H in 2013. Colonel Gardner's last operational combat tour was in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE in 2017 as a C-130H Aircraft Commander and 386th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron Director of Operations. Prior to assuming his current position, Colonel Gardner served as the 120th Maintenance Group Commander, Montana Air National Guard. Additionally, Colonel Gardner served as an Air Interdiction Federal Agent from 2007-2013 with the Department of Homeland Security Customs and Border Protection as part of the Montana Air Branch.
