CAPTAIN JAMES PHILLIPS

Captain James Phillips, has been the commander of the Air National Guard Band of the Northwest since 1998. He received his commission in August 1999 through the Academy of Military Science at McGhee-Tyson ANG Base, TN.

In his civilian life, he is a band and orchestra director in the school district of Coeur d'Alene, ID. and is listed in Who's Who Among America's Teachers. Capt. Phillips holds a bachelor of music, bachelor of arts and a master of arts in music from Washington State University. An accomplished trumpet player, Capt. Phillips has performed with the Spokane Symphony, the Spokane Jazz Orchestra, North Idaho College Jazz Band, Big Band Northwest, the Royal Fireworks Concert and is currently the principal cornet player with the Spokane British Brass Band.

Captain Phillips' military decorations include the Air Force Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Air Force Training Ribbon, the Washington State Recruiting and Retention Ribbon, and the Washington State Achievement Medal.
